This page explains how Screw Identify handles information when you measure screws, compare catalog matches, and send optional feedback.
This policy applies to the Screw Identify website. You can use the identification tool without creating an account. Contacting us by email is optional and separate from identifying a screw.
Measurements and identification
When you search, the tool sends your measurements, selected screw characteristics, optional thread details, and calibration status to this website’s matching server. The server compares them with the screw catalog and returns likely matches. Identification is not performed entirely inside your browser.
The matching endpoint processes your search to return results but does not save searches or results to the catalog database. The application does not intentionally log search request bodies. Search inputs and results are saved in your browser as described below. Technical request logs are separate from these saved results. The tool does not accept photographs for identification.
Accounts and contact details
You do not need an account, name, email address, or payment details to use the identification tool. Please avoid entering personal or sensitive information in optional search notes or feedback.
Information stored in your browser
We use browser storage to keep the tool convenient to use:
- Local storage remembers your identification draft, unit preference, calibration profile, theme, and explicitly selected language across visits.
- The calibration profile includes scale and display information used to check whether the saved calibration may need updating.
- Session storage keeps recent search inputs, results, and guide-line preferences for the browser tab’s session. Browser session-restoration features may restore this information.
Local storage remains until you clear it or your browser removes it. You can remove stored information through your browser’s site-data settings. Doing so resets saved preferences and identification progress. Search Again clears screw-specific progress and results, but preserves calibration and other preferences.
Hosting and technical information
The website uses Cloudflare to host the application, screw catalog, and reference images. Requests pass through Cloudflare, which may process technical information such as your IP address, requested URL, browser information, and request timing to deliver and protect the service.
Diagnostic logging is enabled to help identify errors and maintain the website. Technical logs may include request metadata, response status, and runtime errors. Log retention is governed by the hosting service’s settings and policies; clearing your browser storage does not delete hosting logs. Cookies and external links
The application uses browser storage, rather than cookies, to remember tool preferences. The site-owned application does not currently include advertising trackers or third-party analytics scripts. Fonts and catalog reference images are served through the website.
Source and supplier links lead to other websites. If you follow them, those websites handle your visit under their own privacy policies.
Inquiries and feedback
You can send inquiries and feedback by email. If you email us, your message includes your email address and any information you choose to share. The contact page opens your email application; it does not submit messages through a website form. Please do not include sensitive information.
Email correspondence is handled through email services, separately from the screw catalog and your browser’s saved identification data. Sending an email is not anonymous. Clearing the website’s browser storage does not delete email correspondence.
